Lessons
Learning with me
'Singing
lessons' is a
catch-all term for all kinds of help that I can offer you. As a
starting point, I suggest you have a good look around this website, and
then view the activities listed in
the table below to get a feel for what we might do together.
After that, you might want to get a flavour of how I work by reading
about my teaching philosophy,
which is about working with you as
a person, rather than taking you arbitrarily through a
pre-set teaching programme.
You can also browse through the resources
page, a collection of free articles, videos, tips and tools.
You can also just pick up the phone to me - 01865-716571 - or email me

Initial
consultation lesson
Choosing
a singer teacher is a very personal thing, and not every teacher suits
every student. The initial consultation with me lasts 1.5 hours, and
gives us time to get to know each other a little. You can ask all the
questions you want, and do not have to make any commitment to working
with me at the end of that meeting, or indeed at any stage, however
long we might work together.
In our first meeting, I will ask you to talk about your voice, and aim
to get a sense of what I call the 'context' of your voice - good and
bad experiences with it, aspirations (however wild you may think they
are!), frustrations and disappointments, questions, and what coming to
voice lessons means for you.
There will also be time for you to sing if you want to, and I will give
you immediate feedback on what I notice, and give you some ideas for
next steps that you can take by yourself. I am interested in working
with all voices, regardless of ability - I teach highly competent
professionals, and also outright beginners and people who think they
are no-hopers. For me, it's all extremely interesting and rewarding and
worth my putting in the time, care and attention.
Not everyone feels ready or confident to sing something straight away -
you might just want to make ('non-singing') vocal sounds, or
perhaps not vocalise at all. That's okay. We start from where you are.
Next step
If
you like what you have found on this website, and would like to talk
about having some lessons, or maybe a one-off consultation, give me a call on 01865-716571 or email me
at alexander@oxfordsinginglessons.co.uk
and we can talk about what you are looking for.
